Put The Puzzle Pieces Together How Puzzles Are Beneficial For Children

It is no surprise that children spend an increasingly lengthy amount of time on cellular devices, tablets, and other electronic devices. We cannot blame them for becoming zombie-like, because they’re growing up in a world where technology is prevalent. It’s everywhere we look. Some may argue that technology has made the greatest advancements to date, and that it is very necessary for our world. However, how is technology affecting children? Is it turning children into walking zombies? Fear not! Jigsaw puzzles are coming to the rescue! Here’s how puzzles of all kinds are beneficial for children.

Jigsaw Puzzles

Jigsaw puzzles come in many forms and options. There are small puzzles such as 300 piece puzzles. There are medium sized puzzles, such as 500 piece puzzles and 750 piece puzzles. Then there are large puzzles, 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, and 2000 piece jigsaw puzzles. Jigsaw puzzles also come in a variety of skill level. There are easy puzzles, moderately difficult puzzles, and difficult puzzles. With so many options, from piece count to skill level, you’ll never get bored. Jigsaw puzzles are truly one of a kind, they keep you occupied, they relax you (dopamine is produced when you’re solving a puzzle), and they bring fun and joy into the lives of puzzles lovers. More importantly, jigsaw puzzles are beneficial for children, especially those who may be addicted to technology.

Development And Reasoning: Solving jigsaw puzzles may become complicated for adults. Just imagine how solving a puzzle is for children. With that said, solving a puzzle can be hard for children. But, this is a good thing! Because puzzles can be difficult for children, they really have to take the time to think. They think about where to fit the pieces of the puzzle to complete the picture. They also think about how those pieces fit so successfully. This thinking is critical thinking. Additionally, once they solve the puzzle, children work on strategies that may help them the next time it’s time to do a puzzle! Although, doing a puzzle can be fun, it’s also beneficial for children because they practice and utilize critical thinking skills, that they do not receive when using technology.

Time: As previously mentioned, jigsaw puzzles- from the 300 pieces puzzles to the 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles, keep you occupied. This is also true when discussing children. Jigsaw puzzles can actually provide more entertainment for children than technology. Jigsaw puzzles can keep children entertained for hours on end, whereas, with technology some children get bored, tired, or experience side effects of staring at a screen for too long (headaches). When solving jigsaw puzzles for a number of hours, children simply remain relaxed.

Education: Believe it or not, solving jigsaw puzzles is actually educational! This is an enormous benefit! Because of puzzles, children are introduced to a number of different subjects. They can complete puzzles that incorporate mathematics, reading, and geography. In addition, children also progress their visual, spatial, and cognitive skills. More importantly, children can develop their social skills by doing puzzles with other children their ages!

Memory And Concentration: Solving puzzles will help children in the long run, and well into their adulthood. When they begin to solve a puzzle, children really need to concentrate on where the pieces fit. They also have to remember where each piece goes. Because of this, the increase their memory and concentration skills, and when they get older they can focus successfully on tasks.

Reusable: Unlike technological devices that can break, or need to be charged, puzzles are easy and reusable. Children can solve their jigsaw puzzles over and over again- for hours on end! Also, doing puzzles (even if it’s 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles) always remains fun!

Patience: The last benefit jigsaw puzzles have for children (300, 750, and 1000 piece jigsaw puzzles) is patience. Patience is key when solving a puzzle and figuring out where the pieces fit. When children solve puzzles they are increasing their abilities to remain patient throughout it all.
