But while technology has brought about a series of positive changes and leaps forwards in terms progress, like any double edged sword, there are some negative aspects. For examples cases of body dysmorphic disorder (BDD), a condition in which sufferers are extremely unhappy with their physical appearance and may go to great and often destructive lengths to correct non-existent issues, are on the rise. The reasoning behind this is that constant exposure to other people’s social media platforms has instilled a sense of insecurity and need to compete.

Perhaps what’s most troublesome is that people nowadays seem to be constantly plugged into their smartphones and mobile devices, so much so that many people find it difficult to have face to face communications. This may even cut into family time, making it more difficult for parents and their children to establish meaningful connections with each other. Everyone can relate to the frustration of trying to hold a conversation with someone who is constantly texting or on the phone! It often leads to frustration or a sense of feeling neglected.

Though technology can also be used to help families stay in touch, it can also make it difficult for families to spend meaningful time together and have some good old fashioned family fun.
