This spot is famous because the Japanese attack on it in 1941 ushered the United States into World War II. 1. It’s Quite a Ways From Waikiki

   Oahu may seem like a small island, but you’ll find it can actually be quite difficult to get from place to place. 2. Pearl Is an Active Military Base

   If you’re planning to visit Pearl Harbor, you should remember that it’s an active naval base as well as being a solemn commemorative site. That means there are certain safety protocols in place you’ll need to abide by. For example, purses and strollers are not permitted (they can be checked for a modest fee). It also means it’s not the right place for some kinds of jokes or roughhousing with your kids. There will be plenty of time for that when you enjoy other areas of the island.
